We've had highs officially at 97 degrees F the last two days, 99 and higher according to the signs on banks and in my car.  The heat index has been around 110.  And my refrigerator sits in my kitchen where it gets direct sunlight all morning and partial light all afternoon.  The poor thing is running all. the. time.  The food is staying cool, although ice cream was a just a smidgen soft when it is usually like a rock.  I will be the first to admit that I don't trust that it is just the heat and not the fridge about ready to croak.

I don't want to make it mad or anything and I certainly don't want it to commit suicide but, well, I'm looking for a new refrigerator.  I've spent some time on the interwebs today checking out models, doing online chat with specialists, checking prices, etc.  I know the measurements of the space and I think I've found the unit I want but I want to touch it first.  I have to play with the doors and the shelves and the controls before I put down *cough* *mumble* on a new appliance.  (OK, it is on sale at Home Depot for $1079 but I just spent five grand on windows so spending more is kind of making me choke up a bit)

If they have the unit at my local store to look at and I like it (or if I can't find one to look at anywhere and just decide screw it) I will be ordering it and it will be here sometime next week.  Hopefully my current fridge will last that long.  Although I have no idea how old it is - could be the same age as the house, 16 years.  And given that nearly everything in this house has been repaired at one time or another and repaired badly even if it isn't 16 years old who knows what kind of crappy ass non-standard made ti fit parts are in there?  No, better to replace than to come home one day to room temperature fish.

I'm beginning to think that eventually I will probably replace every single thing in this house.  Windows, appliances, floors, fixtures, plumbing, etc.

Wish me luck and a working refrigerator (until the replacement arrives)!
(I'm being very zen about all this.  I must be getting used to this homeowner gig)
