Now that plans have been pretty much finalized I can announce this.
I'm going to Italy for a week in September!
Dad's cousin C-, who is my second cousin, is going to Italy to spend the summer with her ex-husband. He works outside of Venice at an air force base. C- invited Dad and I to come as this may be the last year that T- will be working in Italy. After much discussion - most of it centered around how the hell I was going to swing another vacation this year with my remaining vacation days - it was decided to take her up on the offer and see if there was going to be room at the inn in September. There is, so now all that is left is to book our flights and decide what we want to do.
We'll be staying with C- & T- so the accommodations are comprised of a tiny guest room and a couch but whose going to complain when it means a free place to stay? We'll be near Venice for 7 days so the plan is to concentrate on that area of the country. Venice, Verona, Padua and maybe an overnight trip over to Milan. Personally I'll be thrilled just to be in Italy; to explore all the little towns around Venice and the fishing villages on the coast. Give me good food, friendly people, and great wine and I'll be happy.
I am so excited!
<does a little happy dance>
In other travel news Dad and I have booked our next cruise - a 12-day Mediterranean cruise in October 2011. Greece, Egypt, Israel, Turkey and Italy (Rome this time). We're going to add on a couple days ahead of the cruise to see Greece. And there might be a day or two in Rome at the end, which hopefully will give us time to go to Naples so I can see Pompeii. And I get to go to Egypt!!!!!!!!!
<does another happy dance>
I am the luckiest girl, ever!
