My first foray into gardening and I've already made a mistake. Got the wrong soil. While I was out today I got seeds and a tomato plant as well as some organic soil. Says on the bag that it is good for veggie gardens so I thought Great! It wasn't until I got it home and was hauling the bags out of the car that I see the thing on the back of the bag that says "NOT FOR CONTAINERS". Whoops!
So tomorrow the bags of soil, the receipt and I will go back to Home Depot and get the correct mix, one that can be used for a container garden. Yes, I could amend the soil I have but that would be even more work. I'm a newbie at this so I'm trying to keep things simple here.
I have a patio tomato plant. And I have the following seeds: carrot (chantenay short & sweet), radish (red emperor hybrid), cucumber (spacemaster), beans (bush blue lake), scallion (evergreen long white bunching) and lettuce (baby red mix). Hopefully all will do OK in the containers.
In other news I am still not done with Consider Phlebas by Iain M Banks. I have about 150 pages left. I'm still enjoying it but I'll be honest - I'm ready to be done with this book and move on to something else. I'm not sure which book from my TBR pile will be the next lucky winner - let's just hope it isn't one that takes me a week to finish, shall we?
Talked to my Sissy, the Bookbabe today. Things in NC are going well and she is going to be posting some new book reviews soon so check out her site (under my links list).
And now I'm going to go try to finish the book. Tomorrow is a big day of repotting house plants, cleaning gutters, and exchanging wrong soil for right. Wowee! So much to look forward to! OK, I'm being sarcastic but I really do like this homeowner shit. Makes me feel like a real adult. Considering I will be 40 this year I think its about time, don't you?
