My Laptop, She Is Kaput
Apr. 25th, 2009 06:28 pmWent to turn on my laptop this afternoon and ------ nothing. Not a damn thing. No power. So I try the battery. Again, no power. Which isn't a huge shock since I keep the battery out and off to the side most of the time and work off of AC.
I motored down the street to the PC Repair place. Dude there thinks it's the AC Adapter as it is making a peculiar little chirping noise when you plug it into the computer. Probably a blown coil. He isn't sure though because he didn't have a compatible adapter to test with. This is what happens when there are no industry standards on things like batteries, adapters, cell phone chargers, etc. Yes, one of my pet peeves.
So using my super secret backup computer I have ordered a replacement part, which will hopefully be here in a few days. I will be keeping my fingers crossed that the adapter is the problem. If not it means I have a problem with the board. And that means a new computer. The nice PC repair guy can salvage my hard drives for me if that is the case. Providing the problem, whatever it is, didn't fry them.
Yes, I have backups. But my latest backup is on the D drive as I needed to get a new external drive to put it on. grrrr
